The kitchen in this Little Elm home had stopped matching the house around it. A closed room, dated finishes, heavy trim, and a stone fireplace that took up the whole keeping room without ever making it feel warm. What the homeowners asked for was one connected space where the cooking, the gathering and the fire all belonged to each other. **Demolition and structure.** Walls came back to the studs and the original brick chimney chase came out. Dust containment went up at every opening with negative air, and floor protection ran the traffic path, because the family lived in the house for the whole build. The ceiling was reframed to carry new timber beams, and the openings between kitchen, keeping room and breakfast area were resized — the header work is the part nobody sees and the reason the finished space reads as one room instead of three. **Plumbing.** The island moved, which meant cutting the slab. Trenches were opened for new supply and drain to the island sink and the prep sink, stub-ups set and inspected, then the slab patched and floated flat before flooring. Gas was rerun and pressure-tested to the new range location. A pot filler was plumbed at the range wall with a shutoff accessible behind the cabinet run. **Electrical.** The kitchen was rewired to current code for the load it now carries — dedicated circuits for the 48-inch range, double ovens, refrigeration and disposal; GFCI protection at every counter receptacle; and the island fed from below through the slab conduit set during the plumbing trench, because there is no second chance once the concrete goes back. Lighting is layered: recessed on dimmers, pendants over the island, integrated toe-kick and undercabinet strips, and lit shelving in the scullery. Switching was planned to how the room is actually used rather than where it was easiest to land a box. **Millwork and finishes.** Custom cabinetry in rift-cut white oak, stained warm, with deep pot drawers on full-extension hardware and fitted inserts sized to the homeowners' cookware. Quartzite runs full height on the range wall so the veining carries unbroken behind the range, and the same slab wraps the island with a mitered edge. The hood surround was built to match the cabinetry over a properly ducted liner vented to the exterior. Timber beams across a vaulted plank ceiling. A scullery finished in soft sage with brass hardware. In the keeping room, the fireplace was rebuilt in whitewashed stone under a hand-hewn charred timber mantel hung on concealed steel.
